PRODUCT REVIEW: SYMBIOME POSTBIOMIC FACIAL OILS – BEST FACIAL OILS FOR DRY SKIN, BEST PROBIOTIC FACE CREAM FOR THE MICROBIOME
SYMBIOME | POSTBIOMIC FACIAL OIL
I first featured this innovative minimalist brand focused on microbiome health on my IG page two weeks ago on #skincarmasaturday — when I share a glimpse of my new skincare discoveries of the week.
As I said, Symbiome’s The One might be the coolest moisturizer ever. There are literally three ingredients in the formula — which is quite odd to me given that it has the look and feel of a conventional face cream.
The One face cream is formulated with water, Sanoma Leaf Oil and Lactobacillus Ferment. That’s it! One of the best moisturizers to rebalance skin’s microbiome, The One feels like a face cream from another world with a silky, fluffy texture and an herbaceous scent.
What is the microbiome?
I found an insightful article on the NIH website simply titled, The Skin Microbiome. This segment is helpful in understanding what the skin’s microbiome is and its role in the health of the skin:
An enhanced understanding of the skin microbiome is necessary to gain insight into microbial involvement in human skin disorders and to enable novel promicrobial and antimicrobial therapeutic approaches for their treatment.
The skin is an ecosystem composed of 1.8 m2 of diverse habitats with an abundance of folds, invaginations and specialized niches that support a wide range of microorganisms. The primary role of the skin is to serve as a physical barrier, protecting our bodies from potential assault by foreign organisms or toxic substances. The skin is also an interface with the outside environment and, as such, is colonized by a diverse collection of microorganisms — including bacteria, fungi and viruses.
I’m intrigued by Symbiome and excited to share its range of “postbiomic” facial oils. According to the brand,
“Our less than 10 promise ensures that our products will always contain as few clean, organic, traceable, and sustainable ingredients as possible without sacrificing efficacy.”
Like Symbiome’s The One, they’re minimalist to the extreme with just two or three carefully selected ingredients each. In fact, the Rebalance001 Postbiomic Oil is infused with just two botanical oils that are “fermented using a proprietary blend of ancestral, native microbes to unlock and optimize bioavailable nutrients and enzymes.”
Having tried them all over the past 6 weeks, I have to say my favorite is Rewind003 Postbiomic Oil — intended for pigmented or mature skin. It’s also infused with just three oils.
Cumaru Oil is a non-fragrant plant oil with brightening benefits and some Ferulic Acid, a potent, protective antioxidant. Sanoma Leaf Oil calms and soothes sensitive skin. And antioxidant Buriti Oil moisturizes skin.
Symbiome is amazing. Super gentle, minimalist skincare that’s all pro-skin health and nothing more.
