I first played around with Tata Harper’s phenomenal Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask on Selfcare Sunday a few weeks ago. If you missed it, you can always catch it on my IGTV.
I love this mask! It’s literally the best of all worlds. Tata’s Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask is 100% natural, clean, superbly effective — and is so much fun to use! It has this wild, jelly like texture that feels great on the skin and gives you the impression that it’s just a really good hydrating mask for dry, dehydrated skin.
Truthfully, it is. Tata had the wisdom to replace nonsensical water in the formula with organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice that functions as a humectant to lock water into the skin surface. While water itself in a skincare formula also acts as a humectant, it only does so before it completely evaporates into the air around you — maybe 30 seconds.
The Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask is also loaded with a trio of nourishing fermented actives like Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract and Leuconostoc Ferment Filtrate. These “good bacteria” not only nourish the skin, but can help to balance the skin’s surface microbiome.
What is the microbiome?
I found an insightful article on the NIH website simply titled, The Skin Microbiome. This segment is helpful in understanding what the skin’s microbiome is and its role in the health of the skin:
An enhanced understanding of the skin microbiome is necessary to gain insight into microbial involvement in human skin disorders and to enable novel promicrobial and antimicrobial therapeutic approaches for their treatment.
The skin is an ecosystem composed of 1.8 m2 of diverse habitats with an abundance of folds, invaginations and specialized niches that support a wide range of microorganisms. The primary role of the skin is to serve as a physical barrier, protecting our bodies from potential assault by foreign organisms or toxic substances. The skin is also an interface with the outside environment and, as such, is colonized by a diverse collection of microorganisms — including bacteria, fungi and viruses.
The star of the Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask formula, though, is White Willow Bark Extract, a natural BHA that helps to clarify and gently exfoliate the skin. It comprises perhaps 10% of the formula — and you can sure feel it when it goes on. Almost immediately, a tingling effect kicks in and continues until you wash it off. It leaves my complexion looking bright and clear every time.
