If you missed my brand review of First Aid Beauty last week, you can catch it here. Quite simply, FAB has some of the best formulas available for treating sensitive skin. The brand focuses on high concentrations of soothing actives to calm irritation, ingredients like Colloidal Oatmeal and Feverfew.
And, just in time, their newest product happens to be a clean mineral sunscreen that came out about a month ago.
The FAB Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF 30 is formulated with non-nano Zinc Oxide and, as the name implies, is super lightweight on the skin. In fact, it has more of a serum texture than that of a lotion. Of course since it’s tinted, it leaves no white cast.
One of the more notable actives in FAB’s clean formulation is Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate — an intriguing exopolysaccharide derived from marine bacteria. Notably, an in-vivo test on 15 subjects demonstrated that Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate improves hydration levels in the skin.
According to the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team,
“Alteromonas is found in deep areas of seawater. Due to its polysaccharide structure, it has water-binding properties for skin and is reportedly a good soothing ingredient. There is preliminary information indicating that this ingredient also contributes to repairing skin's surface. As more research is done, it appears this ingredient holds even more promise for skin.”
In addition, there’s a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, and skin-replenishing botanical extracts that infuse the skin with healthy nutrition. Two of them, Green Tea Extract and Licorice Root Extract have powerful antioxidant and benefits for the skin. Licorice Root Extract, in particular, is popular in traditional Korean Hanbang herbal medicine and a superb skin brightener.
About that tint. I’m always leery of tinted formulas, understandably concerned that I don’t appear to be wearing makeup.
I’m happy to report that not only are my drag days behind me (yes, there was a Halloween incident back in 1995), but it leaves behind no hint of makeup; rather my skin just appears a bit more even-toned. And because it’s so “watery,” it’s easily spreadable on application.
You can try it out for yourself on the Sephora website here for $34. Plus, explore all of First Aid Beauty’s clean skincare for sensitive skin here.
