As far as clean mineral sunscreens go, it doesn’t get any coolah than this.
I laugh every time I see the brand Coola as it reminds me of an old college friend from the Boston area who couldn’t pronounce an “R” at the end of a word if you paid her. I can hear her yelling across the quad now, “Cahhhhhmine, meet me fuh dinnah!”
Coola is one of those brands that doesn’t seem to get enough love. So I’m here to show it some! The Coola Mineral Sun Silk Crème SPF 30 is an oil-free formula that has an even more watery texture than the FAB liquid sunscreen I reviewed on the blog here.
Indeed, as the brand claims, it “glides on for a transparent veil, with sun, digital, and pollution protection.” The Coola Mineral Sun Silk Crème an excellent formula — vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free — with a 15% concentration of non-nano Zinc Oxide for an SPF of 30 that will block out 97% of UV rays.
The first ingredient is actually Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, in place of water — which I love! There are a couple of antioxidant botanicals as well as a tiny amount of Niacinamide — which I estimate to be between one and two percent.
Perhaps the most intriguing active in the INCI is Jasminum Sambac Leaf Cell Extract, a derivative of Indian Jasmine and a non-fragrant component of the botanical. I’d never heard of the flower, but a quick Google search uncovered that Indian Jasmine is a traditional offering to the gods. That’s a nice bonus, huh?
