PRODUCT REVIEW: NIOD COPPER AMINO ISOLATE SERUM 3 1:1 (CAIS3) – BEST ANTI-AGING SERUM FOR WRINKLES, BEST PEPTIDE SERUM
NIOD | COPPER AMINO ISOLATE SERUM 3 1:1 (CAIS3)
I’m perhaps the biggest NIOD fan on Earth. Don’t believe me? I took a serious deep dive into NIOD in a blog article about two years ago titled, Brands I Love: NIOD High-Science Skincare - Best Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Best Peptide Serum. (You can still access the article on the blog here.)
Among my favorite NIOD products are the brand’s Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex, the uber cool Copper Amino Isolate Serum 2:1 and super bizarre yet super pro-skin health Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist — in my opinion, one of the best antioxidant toners out there.
I first featured NIOD’s innovative new copper peptide anti-aging serum, the NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum 3 1:1 (CAIS3), on my IG page about a month ago on #skincarmasaturday — when I share a glimpse of my new skincare discoveries of the week.
I’m a longtime fan of the original NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum 2:1 (CAIS2) — that remarkable blue peptide serum that comes in two bottles that you combine to mix the formula yourself.
Over the last three or four years, I’ve probably emptied a dozen bottles of NIOD’s CAIS2. And I would be bummed out to hear that CAIS2 had been discontinued if NIOD’s scientists hadn’t somehow figured out a way to combine them for me so I no longer have to conduct that unusual in-home chemistry experiment myself.
I gotta admit I’m gonna miss that! I’m a big Star Trek fan after all.
But I was all amped up to be among the first to try the new CAIS3! Like all NIOD products, the NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum 3 1:1 is super pro-skin health and super complex.
What’s CAIS3 do? Deciem says it “aims to target visible signs of skin aging, including textural irregularities, uneven tone, visibly enlarged pores and a general lack of healthy radiance normally present in younger skin.”
Peptides fascinate me. The use of peptides in skin care products, particularly the best anti-aging serums and creams, has grown increasingly popular in the last couple of years.
But what are peptides and what do peptides do for the skin?
According to the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team, “Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks of proteins such as collagen, elastin and keratin. When applied topically to the skin, peptides act as little messengers, triggering skin cells to perform specific functions such as building collagen and elastin, encouraging skin to look and act younger.”
What are Peptides in Skincare and What Do Peptides Do for Skin?
Of course, there’s a superbly insightful article on the Paula’s Choice website from the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team. Titled What Are Peptides and What Do They Do for Your Skin?, the article goes deep into everything from what peptides are to how they benefit the skin — and what makes them among the best age-fighters in skin care.
Peptides are one of the most talked-about ingredients in the field of anti-ageing skincare. When applied to your skin, they demonstrate remarkable benefits, revitalising your skin and making it more resilient and stronger. But peptides do not possess magical properties, as some brands claim. The fact is that there is no single ingredient that will address all the signs of skin ageing - and peptides are no exception. Peptides are a great asset to your skin, but it’s best to be realistic in your expectations to avoid disappointment. Peptides have amazing benefits for skin but the results will never be the same as a cosmetic procedure.
What are Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks of proteins such as collagen, elastin and keratin. These proteins are the foundations of your skin and are responsible for its texture, strength and resilience. Without peptides, our skin is less intact which can lead to a loss of firmness, the appearance of wrinkles, a change in texture and less ‘bounce’.
When applied topically to the skin, peptides act as little messengers, triggering skin cells to perform specific functions such as building collagen and elastin, encouraging skin to look and act younger.
Extensive scientific research has proven that peptides can support your skin on multiple levels, for example firming, soothing and hydrating the skin.
CAIS3 is infused with a blend of 1.0% Pure Undiluted Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) and 1.0% Pure Undiluted Tripeptide-1 (GHK), both of which NIOD says are “found in nature and originally isolated from human plasma.”
NIOD’s Copper Amino Isolate Serum 3 1:1 is a peptide powerhouse. In addition to the two innovative copper peptides in the formula, there are multiple other peptides, including Tripeptide-29, Tripeptide-1, Tripeptide-1 Acetate, Myristoyl Nonapeptide-3, Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, and Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2.
It has a very light watery texture that makes it easy to layer into any skincare routine at the water-based serum phase, immediately after cleansing and toning and before heavier oil-based serums and creams. Once or twice daily is up to you.
If you’re looking for one of the best anti-aging serums for wrinkles and plumping, the NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum 3 1:1 (CAIS3) is top shelf.
