I love a good humectant serum. Some of my favorites include The Ordinary’s Marine Hyaluronics and the Derma-E Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Gel Booster (it’s a mouthful, but worth the experience!).
So I’m super excited and even honored to be among the first to test drive Farmacy Beauty’s new Filling Good hyaluronic acid plumping serum.
I’m a long-time fan of the brand’s Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask — one of my favorite hydrating treats throughout the cold winter months. Feeling dry? Honey potion to the rescue! And Filling Good is quite special, too.
It’s one of the most unique humectant serums I’ve come across. First, Filling Good is a pulpier type of serum, similar in texture to The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. It’s thick and rich and ever so slightly gooey, but not at all sticky.
Farmacy says they infused their new plumping serum with what the brand calls Full-Spectrum Hyaluronic Acid. By that I assume they mean multi-molecular forms of Hyaluronic Acid to penetrate the skin at varying levels. Nice.
But what I think makes it so unique is the honey blend of Honey Extract, Propolis Extract and Royal Jelly Extract. There are a slew of antioxidant botanical extracts; among the most potent is Turmeric Root Extract.
What’s the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin?
For the answer to that vexing questing, as I most often do, I turned to the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team for insights. There’s a superb piece on the Paula’s Choice site titled, What is Dehydrated Skin & How to Choose the Best Products. Here is an excerpt:
Dehydrated skin often looks and feels like dry skin all over your face, but there's a major difference between the two: dehydrated skin is usually a temporary concern (with various surprising causes) and dry skin typically doesn't change over time. If you have dehydrated skin, your skin may also produce a normal or even excessive amount of oil on its surface.
"Dehydrated skin" is something we’re asked about frequently. It seems there’s a lot of confusion about what this skin concern is about. A major part of the confusion is that the term "dehydrated skin" is often used interchangeably with "dry skin" or "combination skin" but they are not the same! Dehydrated skin can occur in all skin types and is not exclusive to those with dry skin or combination skin.
The Difference Between Dry Skin and Dehydrated Skin
Having classically dry skin is easy to recognize. Dry skin frequently feels tight and dry, with no oil anywhere to be seen. This situation rarely fluctuates; skin feels dry all year long. The dryness might get worse depending on the climate, season, or activity, but regardless of those things, without great skin care products, the uncomfortable dry, tight feeling will persist.
As mentioned above, dehydrated skin can look and feel similar, but there’s a major difference: Dehydrated skin tends to come and go, it does not persist.
And, there’s a new sexy star ingredient that I know nothing about: Thyme Flower Extract. Farmacy thinks it’s so special (and perhaps potent!) that they need to encapsulate it.
According to the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team, Thyme Extract is an “extract derived from the leaf or flower of the thyme plant. It can have potent antioxidant properties. Its fragrant component can also cause skin sensitivity, but thyme extract’s beneficial components can benefit skin. Generally speaking, thyme extract should not be one of the chief antioxidants in skincare products; however, in lower amounts and mixed with other antioxidants, it can be a beneficial addition.”
Look Farmacy Beauty’s Filling Good hyaluronic acid plumping serum is full of intrigue. With its unique silky texture, delicate honey aroma and multi-molecular forms of Hyaluronic Acid, it’s one of the better humectant serums. It’s clean, natural and effective.
Intriguing for sure!
