PRODUCT REVIEW: KPS ESSENTIALS PUMPKIN ENZYME MASQUE – BEST ENZYME MASK, BEST EXFOLIATING FACE MASK
KPS ESSENTIALS | PUMPKIN ENZYME MASQUE
The holidays are literally days away now. Thanksgiving is in just over two weeks. Christmas and New Year’s are in sight, too. Of course, with the pandemic still burning hot in the US, there won’t be much communing. I’m still trying to decide if I’ll even go anywhere for Christmas this year. It doesn’t feel right yet.
But that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about gifts. And you know I love to give skincare for every occasion!
I’ve now shopped the Sephora Beauty Insider sale three times. If you didn’t catch my article two weeks ago on Cool Sephora Beauty Insider Grabs, you can read it here. In addition to new skincare treats for myself, I picked up a few things for loved ones.
The holidays are the perfect time to discover new skincare products. I love all the gift sets, in particular. And I’m excited to share one of my early holiday discoveries from one of my favorite clinical skincare brands, KPS Essentials.
The KPS Essentials Flight of Masques “Private Jet” is an extraordinary collection of masking delights for every imaginable texture preference and skin concern! There are five natural, organic mask treatments — for all the exfoliating, purifying, brightening, hydrating and skin health-boosting you need most during the holidays. Don’t want all five? There are two slimmed down versions with fewer masks and, of course, you can grab just one, too!
Let’s take a look at one of my faves from the KPS Essentials mask collection…

KPS Essentials | Pumpkin Enzyme Masque
If it’s fall in America, there’s pumpkin going on everywhere. Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin Oreos, pumpkin everything. As a kid, pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving was my absolute favorite. The rest of the season, I loved a slice of homemade apple pie. We used to go apple picking every October and we always made apple pies from those fresh-picked apples. It felt like magic. Hot apple pie and vanilla ice cream is pure nirvana!
But pumpkin pie? There’s just nothing like it. And it never occurred to me that I’d grow up to appreciate the raw pleasure of smearing pumpkin on my face. That just seems crazy!
A great pumpkin face mask is a real treat. It’s relatively high in gently exfoliating enzymes, much like other enzymatic fruit acids — notably papaya and pineapple.
In addition to the mild enzyme content, pumpkin fruit is infused with all kinds of pro-skin health nutrients, including vitamins A and B, antioxidants and fatty acids.
According to the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team, pumpkin is one of the best skincare ingredients for the skin, though not among the best enzymatic ingredients it turns out.
[Pumpkin is a] plant whose seeds are a rich source of fatty acids and several antioxidant components, including carotene, lutein, and various cartenoid pigments. Pumpkin oil is a rich source of the skin-restoring ingredient linoleic acid and antioxidant vitamin E.
Pumpkin does not contain fragrance chemicals that are sensitizing to skin, and as such can be considered a beneficial plant ingredient. Enzymes naturally present in pumpkin are often claimed to be alternative exfoliant/peel ingredients for skin.
There is no substantiated research supporting the efficacy of exfoliating skin with pumpkin enzymes. In all likelihood, the enzymes do not remain active or stable once they are added to a cosmetic product.
The KPS Essentials Pumpkin Enzyme Masque feels like pure pumpkin purée out of the jar. In fact, it nearly is! The first ingredient in the INCI is Pumpkin Fruit Purée (Cucurbita Pepo). It literally feels like you’re turning yourself into a pie.
In addition to pumpkin purée, the 95% organic Pumpkin Enzyme Masque contains multiple antioxidants, including Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Cranberry Fruit Extract and Rosemary Leaf Extract. There’s a slew of nourishing non-fragrant plants oils to moisturize the skin, too.
Perhaps most surprising is the addition of Glycolic Acid — at approximately a 5% concentration — and Sugar Maple Extract, also a natural source of exfoliating AHA’s. This is serious stuff — and among the best natural exfoliating masks with Glycolic Acid that I’ve tried.
One application is all it took to leave my skin looking and feeling like I just had an exfoliating facial at a high-end spa. My complexion was lit up, even, baby soft and smooth AF.
Be sure to catch me using the KPS Essentials Pumpkin Enzyme Masque for #selfcaresunday on my IGTV here — and witness me turning myself into a pumpkin pie in celebration of America’s surprising rebirth this November.
